Mashad Organization Welcomes the United Nations’ Call
to Advance Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent
Mashad Organization for Human Rights and Humanitarian Development welcomes the call issued by the United Nations Human Rights Office, urging states and relevant stakeholders to redouble their efforts to achieve reparatory justice for Africans and people of African descent. This includes official apologies, truth-seeking, memorialization, medical and psychological support, as well as various forms of compensation.
We believe that reparatory justice is not only a historical and moral entitlement, but also a fundamental pathway to dismantling systemic racism, which continues to leave lasting negative impacts on African societies and generations of people of African descent around the world.
The Organization affirms that the remarks of Mr. Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, provide an important reference point for adopting a comprehensive approach based on shared responsibility and international solidarity—one that ensures justice for victims and upholds human dignity.
By declaring its full support for this initiative, Mashad Organization calls on states and regional and international institutions to respond seriously and effectively to this appeal, to work together in establishing the foundations of justice, preventing the recurrence of historical injustices, and building a future grounded in equality and fairness.
