We highly commend the statement delivered by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights during the discussion of the Sudan file at the sixty-first session of the Human Rights Council, and we consider it a significant and qualitative shift toward advancing justice and strengthening prospects for peace and stability in Sudan. The characterization of the United Arab Emirates as a state financing the Rapid Support Forces constitutes a bold and advanced step toward international accountability and legal responsibility, and represents additional legal grounds for pursuing international litigation against the UAE and seeking fair compensation for the Sudanese people for the grave harms inflicted upon them. Furthermore, this briefing provides strong and direct support to the efforts of the International Criminal Court, reinforcing the legal basis for the issuance of arrest warrants against the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces and their allies, in affirmation of the principle of non-impunity and in defense of the core values of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
