Mashad Observatory: 270 Tons of Gold and 450

Tons of Gum Arabic—Looted Resources Financing Violations in Sudan⭕️The Mashad Observatory confirms that the trafficking of gold and gum arabic has become one of the most critical sources financing the war in Sudan and prolonging grave violations against civilians. Through the Observatory’s cooperation with regional and international markets and companies involved in supply chains, it has been verified that approximately 270 tons of smuggled gold and 450 tons of gum arabic have entered markets since April 5, through smuggling networks directly linked to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which bear full responsibility for exploiting these resources to fuel the war and perpetrate widespread abuses.Amid crimes that amount to genocide and a near-total collapse of human security in Sudan, the Observatory issues an urgent call to regional and international companies operating in the gold and gum arabic sectors, urging them to immediately halt all purchases from illicit channels and fully refrain from engaging with intermediaries or smuggling networks that contribute to financing the conflict in Sudan, so as not to become—directly or indirectly—complicit in ongoing crimes and violations.Mashad further calls on all relevant companies and entities to adopt transparent and accountable sourcing policies, cooperate with human rights organizations to expose intermediaries and smuggling networks, and disclose all available information to trace looted resources being used to fuel the conflict.Halting the purchase of gold and gum arabic from suspicious or unregulated channels represents a critical step toward drying up the financial flows that the Rapid Support Forces rely on to sustain their military operations, thereby contributing to civilian protection, strengthening accountability, supporting the pursuit of justice, and reinforcing international solidarity with the people of Sudan at this pivotal moment.
