⭕️Mashad Observatory Condemns the Targeting of Humanitarian Convoys in Mellit and Calls for Urgent International Action to Save 1.8 Million Civilians, Including 700,000 Children⭕️

Mashad Observatory strongly condemns the systematic attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied militias against United Nations humanitarian convoys en route to the city of El Fasher. These convoys were carrying life-saving assistance intended for more than 1.8 million civilians, including 700,000 children now facing the threat of famine and health collapse.

The targeting of humanitarian aid constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. It is a war crime and a crime against humanity that reflects a deliberate, systematic policy amounting to genocide through siege and the intentional starvation of civilians in El Fasher. Field reports documented by the Observatory confirm that RSF forces intercepted the convoys, threatened the drivers, and set fire to the trucks—going so far as to film the crime in a futile attempt to mislead public opinion and evade direct responsibility.

Mashad Observatory holds the RSF and its leadership fully accountable for these crimes, and calls on the United Nations Security Council and the African Union to take urgent and decisive measures. These must include the imposition of targeted sanctions, the immediate referral of the case to the International Criminal Court, and the designation of the RSF and all militias threatening peace and security in Sudan as terrorist organizations. The Observatory further urges the international community to establish secure humanitarian corridors and deploy urgent international protection mechanisms to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to El Fasher and across Darfur.

The Observatory stresses that these crimes will not lapse with time. It will continue to document them and submit evidence to all relevant international bodies and mechanisms to ensure accountability and prevent perpetrators from escaping justice. Protecting civilians and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance are binding obligations under international law. Any delay in concrete action amounts to complicity in an ongoing genocide against the people of Sudan, particularly in Darfur.
